Tearin’ It Up

Posted by Adam Junglen

This week just keeps getting better.

Last night I went over to my friend Jeff’s house. Jeff and I have been friends since Elementary school and still manage to stay in contact and visit him occasionally. I had a great time catching up on old times, and just enjoying his company.

Anyways, Thursday night I just could not get to sleep. I tried all of my medicine and everything, and just couldn’t do it. It was so strange. I felt exhausted, but just couldn’t fall asleep.

Around 9:00am I decided I was just going to stay awake and play tournaments. After winning the PokerStars Sunday Million I earned a lot of Tournament Leader Board Points and could basically cruise to top of the weekly leaderboard.

For those unaware, for each tournament you make the top 15% in on PokerStars you get TLB’s (Tournament Leaderboard Points). At the end of each week the winner of the leaderboard gets to play a member of Team PokerStars for $1,000 (freeroll – Stars posts the money), and have their picture on the PokerStars client for everyone who opens PokerStars to see. If the Team PokerStars member wins, then the $1,000 rolls over. Currently the prize is $2,000, so I’m rooting for Raymer to beat last weeks TLB Champion so the prize will increase and I’ll hopefully get to play for $3,000.

All that being said, first I need to win the Weekly TLB. As of this writing I’m in 1st place, and there’s only one day left in the week. The player in 2nd place said he’s taking tomorrow off, and the player in 3rd is way behind, so it looks like I have it locked up. It’s just a matter of rooting for the Team PokerStars member to win his match so the prize increases another thousand dollars for me to play for the next week.

I only played one tournament on FTP today and it was their $32k Guarantee $150-13 at 3:00pm EST. I ended up taking 2nd place for a little under $6k. I sort of botched the match heads up, but I can’t really complain with my recent results.

Lastly I’m going to be featured on next weeks Pocket Five’s Podcast. It’s a weekly radio show, featuring top poker players (and recently congressman/woman) and I’m excited to be headlining it. Here’s a link to the thread where you can submit questions that may be asked on the air. The actual interview is taking place on Monday and it should be available to download in about a week.

Let the good times roll, thanks everyone for the support.

Ship the Sunday Million!!!

Posted by Adam Junglen

Today, I accomplished one of the most desirable feats in poker.

That’s right, I finally won the PokerStars Sunday Million. No chops, or deals, I took 1st place straight up for just under $200k.

The tournament ended less than 6 hours ago and I’m still on cloud 9. Words cannot come close to conveying how satisfying it is for a hyper competitive person (like myself) to finally accomplish a goal that’s been eluded for quite awhile – winning a major tournament – especially after all of my recent close calls.

All of my close friends know how badly I’ve wanted to win a major tournament, and it feels great to finally close one out…and the fact it was the Sunday Million only makes it sweeter.

I suppose “that’s all,” I have for now. Here’s a link to the Cardplayer report.

I Want To Cry

Posted by Adam Junglen

Just finished up playing all the Sundays.

Notable results include:

20th in PS $100+9 for some random cash (around $300 I think)
29th in UB $200k for 1.1k
140th in FTP 500k for …I don’t even remember. $500 maybe? Who cares.
2nd in the Big PS $109+R for 23k.

Despite profiting over 20k today, I’m emotionally crushed. I played incredibly all day. Going into heads-up play in the $100r I had a monstrous chip-lead and had my opponent drawing to 4 outs with 2 cards to come. Obviously he got there and was back in the game. He then proceeded to run insanely hot and came back from a huge deficit and won. It honestly reminded me of how badly Jimmy ran against Gus in the Aussie Millions.

I can say with near 100% certainty that hardly anyone who reads this will come close to comprehending how heartbreaking this was. Honestly, save your time and don’t try.

Besides cashing for over 23k today I’ve been keeping busy crushing the HU SNG’s on a smaller site. I’m fairly certain I’m one of the biggest winners on this site, averaging $150/hr while only playing one table at a time. I’m also getting a very high rakeback percentage, plus a bonus for playing.

For those that don’t know what rakeback is, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Each tournament I play I pay the site a fee, around 7-10% of the buyin (which is how they make their money). I currently have a deal where I get over 30% of my rake back, which is really quite substantial for a medium-high volume professional.

It’s a nice cushion to know that at the end of each month I’ll have around $1,500 waiting for me.

It’s basically a monthly paycheck.

That’s pretty much all I have for now. Despite the recent disappointments (FTP 1k 3rd and PS 100r 2nd), I’m still up an absurd amount of money the past 3 weeks.
